PRESS RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (March 30, 2014)—Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and AERO™ Advanced Paint Technology announced their expanded partnership for the 2014 season—including a newly designed red, white, and blue livery highlighting the team’s National Guard sponsorship.
AERO™ Advanced Paint Technology is a high-performance, green technology, film-based paint applique system, created and applied without solvents or sprayers, eliminating the fumes and environmental impact of harsh chemicals.
“Using AERO’s paint technology last season was the perfect solution for our team,” said Bobby Rahal, co-owner of RLL Racing. “Being lighter and more durable than traditional paint, AERO’s performance gives us a competitive edge in a sport where the difference between winning or losing is a slim margin.”
Rahal said the unique film-based paint system gives his team significant savings on the weight of a racecar livery. “Three or four pounds doesn’t sound like very much, but when one pound makes a difference, three or four pounds is sizeable in a place like Indianapolis Speedway.”
“AERO’s technology was developed to meet the demands of high-performance race cars and jet aircraft,” said Jim McGuire, CEO of entrotech, Inc., AERO’s parent company. “As an early adopter of AERO, RLL Racing has shown this technology can stand up to most demanding conditions and continue to perform.”
Rahal said AERO™ paint also helps maintain RLL Racing’s professional image. “We use AERO not just on our cars but on the transporter and our pit equipment. This paint technology keeps everything looking sharp to help extend the power of our brand.”
Last season, RLL Racing used a full AERO™ livery for the Houston double header, which not only saved 50 percent in paint weight, but also held up to the harsh environmental conditions during two Texas races. “When we had a media event after the races, the car pretty much looked as good as the day it rolled out of the garage for the first time,” Rahal said.
RLL Racing secured a multi-million dollar sponsorship deal from the National Guard of the United States for 2014. Marketing and engineering professionals from RLL worked with AERO™ to develop a red, white, and blue livery highlighting the National Guard brand.
The livery will be significantly lighter, more durable, than paint and other graphic film technologies, while providing enhanced brand equity for the National Guard through a greater depth of image, protection of embedded graphics, and high-resolution printing.
RLL Racing will be running the AERO™ National Guard livery on Graham Rahal’s #15 Honda-powered IndyCar, as well as an AERO matte black livery on the #16 car driven by Oriol Servia.
Furthermore, the partnership extends to the Rahal-managed sports car team, BMW Team RLL, which runs two BMW Z4 GTLM cars in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship series.
In addition to its performance benefits, AERO™ Advanced Paint Technology reduces maintenance time versus ordinary paint. The AERO™ film-based paint applique can be applied and stripped in minutes, since it does not require drying. More information on AERO™ Advanced Paint Technology is available at www.rethinkpaint.com.
